There have been several things going on at Lorenzo I.S.D. Here is a look at what has been going on and what is coming up.
This year the one act play is sponsored by Wendy Martin. The name of the play is called “Some of My Best Friends Are Smiths.” It is by David Campton. The play is about two school teachers. On a walking holiday, they arrive at an English hotel. The reservation is for a “Miss Jones and friend.” When the clerk realizes the friend’s last name, he then says “We don’t take Smiths.” Throughout the play we see Miss Smith is on the receiving end of prejudice and discrimination. The people that are in the play are Mercedes Martinez as Miss Robinson, Marissa Castillo as Miss Jones, Courtney George as Miss Smith, Amber Fink as Mrs. Blake, Bailey Martin as Miss Brown, and the crew is Aisha Martin, Cat Garcia, Brenda Diaz, and Kasi Isbell. The zone contest is March 24th and the District contest is April 2nd. A community and school performance will be scheduled at a later date.
On Saturday, January 10, the junior high Lady Hornets of Lorenzo participated in the annual Lorenzo 8th Grade Tournament. The first game was played against Ralls’s 8th grade team. The Lady Hornets played a hard game, but the Lady Jackrabbits won by an exceptional margin.
The second game was against the Petersburg Lady Buffs. The Lady Hornets came out on top in this game. They won 29-9. The players that contributed the most points were Mica Castillo and Janielle Caballero. Other players who contributed to the score were Denisse Zuniga, Sylvia Alcala, and Miracle Sanchez. Leading the defense was Sylvia Alcala and Janielle Caballero. They both had several steals a piece.
On Monday, January 12, the Lorenzo Hornets traveled to Petersburg where they faced the Lady Buffs for the third time this year. The final score was 33-18 in favor of the Lady Hornets. The offensive scorers were Janielle Caballero with ten, Sylvia Alcala with two, Miracle Sanchez with six, Maricel Rodriquez with two, and Mica Castillo with thirteen. They played a great defensive game as well. Their full court pressure resulted in a number of steals, and their half-court box and one was very successful as well. Great job ladies!
