Featured Teacher- Cheryl Birdwell

Thanksgiving holidays have come and gone, and we truly hope that our readers had
a blessed holiday. In just three to four weeks, we will be preparing for semester exams
and Christmas holidays! This really is a busy and fun time of the year!
This week our featured teacher is Cheryl Birdwell. Cheryl has been associated with
Lorenzo ISD for 30+ years. She had retired three years ago, and then, much to our
delight, she returned last year to teach tenth, eleventh, and twelfth grade English
classes. We were elated to see her return to the halls of Lorenzo High School, because
she is definitely an asset to our school.
Cheryl was born on September 10 and lived in a variety of our Texas cities. She
mentioned Fort Worth, Abilene, Arlington, College Station, and then graduated from San
Antonio Churchill High School.
Her family consists of her husband, Larry, and two sons, Matt(27), and Garrett(23).
Her family would not be complete without her two cats, Cameron and Bella plus her
German Shepherd, Zoey. These pets have a special place in Mrs. Birdwellʼs heart! Her
favorite color is blue; and she loves Mexican food!
When Cheryl is not teaching or taking care of her family, she enjoys reading, crocheting,
and walking.
Several years ago whenever Mrs. Birdwell graduated from Texas Tech University
with her Bachelor of Science in Education, she decided to become a teacher because
she really liked history, and that is what she originally taught before she retired from
teaching three years ago.
She feels that her greatest accomplishment in her life has been raising her sons to
be good men.
When asked who she most admires in history, she stated that it had to be Franklin
Roosevelt because of his guidance through the Great Depression and World War II.
Mrs. Birdwell said she is really looking forward to all of her students in her classes
having the MAC laptops; and she especially enjoys using her Promethean Board for her
teaching presentations. Mrs. Birdwell is a great example of a diligent and motivating
teacher.
