December 10, 2025

Dear Lorenzo ISD Parents and Families,
I hope this message finds you well. As we near the Christmas Break, I want to share several important updates regarding our academic focus, our continued commitment to safety, and key events for the start of the second semester.

We have attached to this packet the updated 2025–2026 Academic Calendar, which includes important dates for the spring semester, including instructional days, holidays, and early-release dates. For your planning, we will hold a Parent–Teacher Meeting Day on February 13, which is an opportunity for families and teachers to connect about student progress and goals for the remainder of the school year. This date is listed on the calendar under the Parent Meetings and Planning section.

Dr. Gregory Nelson, Superintendent

Academically, our mission remains steady. We continue working to ensure every classroom provides high-quality, TEKS-aligned instruction that supports students at all levels. Our focus on strong daily practices, consistent expectations, data-driven decision making, and meaningful student engagement helps ensure that all learners continue to grow steadily throughout the year. As outlined in our staff update, we remain committed to strengthening instructional consistency, accelerating learning for students who need targeted support, and building a sense of belonging and engagement across the district.

Equally important is the safety and security of our students and staff. Since June 2024, we have implemented a wide range of improvements to our safety systems, including secured access points, upgraded emergency protocols, improved communication systems, enhanced visitor verification procedures, campus fencing, and expanded collaboration with law enforcement. These updates strengthen our prevention and response capabilities and reflect our ongoing commitment to creating a safe learning environment for every student.
To continue improving communication, Lorenzo ISD has now partnered with CrisisGo, a platform that allows the district to provide reliable notifications to parents during emergencies, school closures, delayed starts, or other urgent events. This system strengthens our ability to share timely and accurate information with families when it matters most.

It is important for parents to understand our communication process during emergencies. In situations such as a lockdown, our first priority is to secure students and staff, account for every individual, and follow safety protocols without interruption. Once this process is complete, and when law enforcement advises that it is safe and appropriate to communicate, we will provide an update to parents through CrisisGo. If an emergency requires changes to dismissal, transportation, or reunification procedures, CrisisGo will also be used to provide those instructions clearly and efficiently. Please make sure we have your updated phone number and email address.

We appreciate your trust, your partnership, and your ongoing support of Lorenzo ISD. Working together allows us to create a safe, supportive, and academically thriving school for every student.

As we approach the holiday season, I want to wish you and your family a Merry Christmas, a Happy New Year, and a joyful, restful holiday break. May this time bring peace, celebration, and meaningful moments with loved ones.
We look forward to welcoming our students back for a strong and successful second semester.

Respectfully,

Dr. Gregory C. Nelson
